Innovation Strategy for Strengthening Interactions between University and Society

Winner of funding from the “Programme d’Investissement d’Avenir”, the SIRIUS project (“Innovation Strategy for Strengthening Interactions between University and Society”) brings together the partners of Lorraine Université d’Excellence (Université de Lorraine, CNRS, Inria, Inserm, INRAE, CHRU, AgroParisTech, Georgia Tech-Europe).
With an endowment of €13.9 million over 8 years, its ambition is to develop a comprehensive innovation strategy for the partners of the Lorraine site, with the goal of significantly improving their social and economic impact.
The project consists of 4 complementary areas of action, which operate systemically through a dynamic that engages the stakeholders of innovation: the academic world, the economic world, local authorities, and citizens.
- Scientific and Technical Lead: Hélène Boulanger, President of Université de Lorraine
- Operational Project Manager: Ugo Dainche-Cecconello
Deep Change Lab: being more efficient in serving you
The “Deep Change Lab” component aims to streamline inter- and intra-institutional processes and procedures. To do so, it seeks to foster a culture of innovation within the operational services of SIRIUS partners through the creation of a public innovation laboratory. The main goal of this laboratory is to simplify and facilitate relationships with our partners, with a focus on improving the services that the university provides to society. This public innovation lab will also address broader topics and support staff who wish to improve and/or optimize a process. The project will also enable the creation of a network of ambassadors and a chair dedicated to new methods for designing our services.
Leads:
- Mathilde BARTHE, Project Officer – General Directorate of Services
- Rachida RAJOUH, Quality Study Officer – Governance at the Directorate for Steering Support and Quality (DAPEQ)
4SH: create, prototype, test
The “4 Stakeholders” (4SH) component aims to make the innovations of the Lorraine site partners accessible to citizens, local authorities, and businesses. This component has several objectives:
• foster interaction between researchers, students, businesses, associations, local authorities, and citizens in open spaces.
• bring together and certify these openlab structures to extend their opening hours, equip them with innovative tools, and increase their visibility, in connection with the project’s communication component.
• develop expert groups to support public authorities in shaping their public policies.
Launched at the beginning of 2023, the Federation of Innovation Spaces is made up of 10 openlabs from all members of the Lorraine site:
- Charly Lab
- Créativ’Lab
- Expressive GameLab
- Forest’Inn Lab
- Georgia Tech Lab
- Lab-Cité
- Living Lab PROMETEE
- Lorraine Fab Living Lab (LF2L)
- PeeLaB
- Tous Chercheurs
Lead:
- Didier HUMBERT, Head of Marketing Promotion Unit and 4SH Component of the Partnership Directorate at Université de Lorraine
360° Booster: building connections, creating networks, sharing
The 360° Booster component aims to strengthen the impact of LUE on the Lorraine economic fabric. This component is structured around two complementary areas:
- On the one hand, creating 8 Thematic Communities (TC) on topics that bring together research laboratories of the Lorraine site, companies, associations, and local authorities. 4 TCs already existed before the launch of SIRIUS.
- On the other hand, creating groups of researchers/PhD students, who will provide their expertise to requesting partners.
Leads:
- Jérôme STERPENICH, Vice-President in charge of socio-economic partnerships and territorial development, and
- Jérôme EMONOT, Director of Partnerships at Université de Lorraine.
Strategic communication: showcasing Lorraine research
The goal of the communication component is to raise awareness in France and internationally of the Lorraine academic site’s actors and their strengths in research, education, and innovation. The communication component is organized in 3 successive phases:
Promote the achievements of Lorraine Université d’Excellence through media at the international, national, and regional levels, and bring together the Lorraine site’s partners by developing a strong brand identity.
Develop the visibility and reputation of the Lorraine research site through this brand to be clearer and more effective across territories.
Ensure internal adoption of the Lorraine research site’s brand in order to foster a sense of belonging and improve the effectiveness of services for users.
