Martin WIRSING

BIOGRAPHY

Martin Wirsing studied mathematics at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and at the University of Paris 7.

In 1985, he was appointed full professor of computer science at the University of Passau, and in 1992 full professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he headed the research group for programming and software engineering until 2015.

In 2016, he received an honorary doctorate from Royal Holloway College, University of London.

Among his many scientific and policy responsibilities are:

  • Member of the Scientific Committee of the Institut Mines-Télécom (2013-)
  • Member of the Strategic Committee of the University of Bordeaux (2013-)
  • Vice-president for studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (10/2010-)
  • Member of the University Council (Hochschulrat) of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (10/2007-09/2010)
  • Coordinator of the Scientific Advisory Board of the ITM – Lucca Institute for Advanced Studies for the research area “Computer Science and Applications” (2008-2012)
  • President of the Scientific Council of INRIA (French National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Control) (04/2007-12/2010)
  • Director of the Institute for Computer Science at the Fakultät für Mathematik, Informatik und Statistik of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (10/2007-09/2010)
