In France, Health Insurance is mandatory<\/strong> for students enrolled in a French university and for people employed in France. Nevertheless, it is also accessible to visiting PhD students and researchers for stays of more than 6 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also called \u201cS\u00e9curit\u00e9 Sociale\u201d and \u201cAssurance Maladie\u201d, this public body is managed by various health insurance funds, such as CPAM and MGEN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Caisses d’Assurance Maladie (health insurance funds) cover a portion<\/strong> of healthcare costs. The remainder is partly reimbursed by a \u201ccomplementary health insurance\u201d or \u201cmutuelle\u201d (subject to a monthly fee).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are in possession of a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)<\/h4>
\n

A valid European Health Insurance Card<\/strong><\/a> (EHIC) issued by an EU\/EEA country exempts you from having to apply for the French Health Insurance. The EHIC is individual, nominative and free<\/strong>, and must cover at least the whole of the current academic year<\/strong>. Remember to request it from the social welfare agency<\/strong> in your country of residence before <\/strong>you leave, and to renew it if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This card will enable you to claim reimbursement of your health expenses in France under the same conditions and at the same rates as in your country of residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
