Going abroad for a research internship with the ORION Master Grants: Outgoing Mobility
Gain international research experience!
Spend 2 to 6 months in a partner laboratory abroad: develop your scientific skills and build a network that will contribute to the next steps of your academic and professional journey. An international research experience not to be missed!
Who can apply?
Members of ORION clubs:
- Master 1 or Master 2 students at the University of Lorraine
- Engineering students in their second-to-last or final year of study, enrolled in an engineering school of the University of Lorraine or in a partner institution of the Lorraine site (AgroParisTech or Georgia Tech Europe)

Research internship abroad: practical information
- Duration: 2 to 6 months
- Start date: between January and August 2027
- End date: before the date of the jury for the relevant Master’s academic year
- Location: preferably in the laboratory of a priority partner of the Lorraine site
Important: internships that have started before the application is submitted are not eligible.
The grant can be combined with needs-based scholarships (CROUS) and the International Mobility Grant (AMI). It cannot be combined with other mobility grants provided by the institution (Erasmus+, Amobul, etc.). It does not cover all costs associated with international mobility.

Welcoming an international student with the ORION Master Grants: Incoming Mobility
Are you a research supervisor at a laboratory and would like to welcome an international student for a research stay?
These grants are intended for international students wishing to undertake a Master’s-level research stay in laboratories in the Lorraine region.
Applications are submitted by the research director of a laboratory in the Lorraine region and make it possible to welcome students from international partnerships established by the laboratories.
Research stay funding
ORION Master Grants funding includes:
- An allowance for a 4- to 6-month research stay, amounting to €1,000 per month;
- Financial support of €1,000 for round-trip travel.
Selected candidates will receive a maximum allowance of €7,000 (6 months × €1,000 + €1,000 for travel)1.
1 This lump-sum grant will be paid as follows: €1,000 upon presentation of the visa, followed by six monthly payments of €1,000 after the start of the research stay at the University of Lorraine, in the case of a 6-month stay.
Application and selection
The application must include:
- A brief description of the nature, history and scope of the partnership between the two teams involved
- The proposed research topic for the research stay, including details about supervision, the context and the expected outcomes
- The CV, Master’s Year 1 and Year 2 transcripts, a motivation letter, letters of recommendation and any other relevant information to assess the quality of the proposed student’s application
- A statement of commitment confirming that the ORION programme will be acknowledged in publications resulting from the research stay
