A club that studies H2 storage in metal hydrides and iron ore reduction in a hydrogen furnace.
This club is based on two PhD research topics: H2 storage in metal hydrides and iron ore reduction in a hydrogen furnace (to replace methane). It then broadens its scope to the interactions between metals and hydrogen within the sector.
Members take a critical look at this research in the context of climate change and the energy transition. They sometimes move beyond materials physics to discuss new forms of energy.
The Team
- Adrien Heinzelmeier – PhD Student – LEM3

Join Us!
- Laboratory visits, polishing metal samples, and observing them under the microscope together.
- Scientific seminars (our PhDs, talks from colleagues, etc.)
- Organizing meetings with companies from the sector
- Collaborative workshops on energy transition (e.g. Climate Fresco)
In Practice
- Workspace via COMPACT
- Monthly Teams meeting at fixed times (depending on members’ availability)
- In-person meetings at the laboratory (Metz and Nancy)
- Group outings to events, companies, etc.
