METHY Club

A club that studies H2 storage in metal hydrides and iron ore reduction in a hydrogen furnace.

This club is based on two PhD research topics: H2 storage in metal hydrides and iron ore reduction in a hydrogen furnace (to replace methane). It then broadens its scope to the interactions between metals and hydrogen within the sector.

Members take a critical look at this research in the context of climate change and the energy transition. They sometimes move beyond materials physics to discuss new forms of energy.

The Team

  • Adrien Heinzelmeier – PhD Student – LEM3
  • Antoine Marsigny – PhD Student – Institut Jean Lamour
  • Antoine Guitton – Associate Professor – Institut Jean Lamour
  • Thomas Gries – CNRS Researcher – Institut Jean Lamour

Join Us!

  • Laboratory visits, polishing metal samples, and observing them under the microscope together.
  • Scientific seminars (our PhDs, talks from colleagues, etc.)
  • Organizing meetings with companies from the sector
  • Collaborative workshops on energy transition (e.g. Climate Fresco)

In Practice

  • Workspace via COMPACT
  • Monthly Teams meeting at fixed times (depending on members’ availability)
  • In-person meetings at the laboratory (Metz and Nancy)
  • Group outings to events, companies, etc.
  • Exchange space via Discord
