At the start of each academic term (“semestre”), the Université de Lorraine’s International and European Relations Department organizes welcome events for international students.
These opportunities provide students with practical information and personalised assistance in carrying out administrative formalities as well as a range of convivial and festive activities.

The Welcome Days! 2025
Are you a new international student at the University of Lorraine?
To celebrate the start of the academic year, the Welcome Desk of the Université de Lorraine is pleased to meet you and invite you to its Welcome Days!
- Thursday, September 18 in Nancy (Nancy City Hall)
OR
- Monday September 29 in Metz (Metz City Hall).
On the program:
- 4:00 p.m. -> 7:00 p.m.: Information and assistance stands for your daily life attended by the services of the Université de Lorraine and its partners, with a treasure hunt and goodies.
- 7:30 p.m.: “French Apéro” with speech and welcome cocktail.
- 9:45 p.m.: “After Party” evening organized for you by a student association in a bar (more information during the “French Apéro”).
Participation is free, but registration is required as places are limited!:

“Faim d’échanges” in Nancy and “Echanges gourmands” in Metz
“Faim d’échanges” in Nancy and “Echanges gourmands” in Metz are not-to-be-missed events at the start of each academic year for international students and researchers in Lorraine who want to forge lasting links with the people of Nancy and Metz.
Organised by the Crous Lorraine, the Metropole of Grand Nancy, the cities of Nancy and Metz and the Erasmus Student Network, these events offer international students and researchers in Lorraine the chance to meet over a convivial meal in a local home.
These events will take place over 2 days:
- a meeting of all the participants in this exchange at the Town Hall in :
- Nancy on 8 November
- Metz on 16 November
- and a family lunch on:
- 10 November in Nancy
- 17 November in Metz

Pause-café, Pause papiers
During the “Pause-café, Pause papiers” event organised at the start of each academic year by the CROUS and its partners (Assurance Maladie, Stan Réseau, etc.), our Welcome Desk will be present to provide information on the steps you need to take to settle in Lorraine (in particular visa validation and applying for a residence permit) on:
- Wednesday 11 September from 3pm to 7pm at the Résidence Monplaisir (Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy)
- Friday 13 September from 3pm to 7pm at the Résidence Médreville (Laxou)
- Monday 23 September from 3pm to 7pm at the Résidence Saulcy (Metz)
