If you need help paying your rent, you can ask the Family Allowances Fund (CAF) for housing assistance.
Please note: From 1 July 2026, the following students will be eligible for housing benefits (APL):
- students who are nationals of a European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) country
- students who are nationals of a non-EU or non-EEA country and who receive a French government scholarship
If you are a national of a non-EU or non-EEA country and do not receive a French government scholarship, you will no longer be eligible for APL from 1 July 2026.
However, such assistance is granted in accordance with your financial resources and family situation.

ASSISTANCE (CAF)
To request housing assistance
- You must have a rental agreement and pay rent
- Citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU) must have a valid residence permit:
- long-stay visa valid as a residence permit (VLS-TS) and certificate confirming validation of the VLS-TS
- or residence card (while waiting for the residence card and only in the event of a request for its renewal: Certificate of Prolongation of Residence Permit (ADP) or Residence Permit receipt
- Citizens of EU countries must have a national identity card or a valid passport
