European Euraxess Network

The Euraxess centers of the University of Lorraine can assist you in all stages of your stay in Lorraine: formalities for entering and staying in France, help with finding accommodation, enrolling for health cover, opening a bank account, information about your children’s schooling and all aspects of daily life.

Coming with your family

If you are coming to France with your family (spouse and/or children), you will have to carry out the procedures required to organize childcare and/or schooling for your minor child(ren). Depending on your child(ren)’s age, you will find practical information to guide you through the steps you will need to take in France.

Guest postdocs and researchers

The Welcome@Lorraine program provides international researchers hosted by LUE’s local partners with “VIP” assistance for stays of at least 3 months.

Taxes in France for PhD students and researchers

You’ve received a salary in France, paid by a French organization, you engage in a professional activity, salaried or otherwise, and France is your country of residence (for more than 183 days a year): then you must submit a tax return to the French tax authorities every year.

Translating your administrative documents

Many French public services, such as the Préfecture, will request translations of your official documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc). Here are lists of sworn translators.

Phone numbers and emergency services

Here is the list of phone numbers and websites in the event of an emergency, loss or theft of your means of payment (bank card, cheque book) or if you need to talk to someone or get advice about your physical or mental health in France.
