Translating your administrative documents
Many French public services, such as the Préfecture, will request translations of your official documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc). Here are lists of sworn translators.

Complementary or mutual health insurance for researchers
In France, Assurance Maladie (Health Insurance aka Social Security) doesn’t reimburse all your healthcare costs. Complementary (or mutual) health insurance covers the remaining costs to be met by the policy holder.
Health Insurance for PhD students and researchers
In France, Health Insurance is mandatory and free for students. Also called “Sécurité Sociale”, this public service covers a percentage of your healthcare costs.
Validating a long-stay visa valid as a residence permit for PhD students & researchers
You’ve arrived in France with a VLS-TS; within the 3 months following your arrival, you must validate your visa in order to give it the full value of a residence permit, i.e. so that it will give you the same rights

If you’re a citizen of a NON-EU country, the residence permit is mandatory.
Once you’re in France, depending on the type of visa you’ve been issued, you must carry out residence formalities in order to be authorized to live in the country with “Student” or “Researcher Talent Passport” status.
Compulsory insurances in France
In France, civil liability and home insurance provide financial cover against damage caused to other people and in the event of an incident in your accommodation (fire, water damage, etc.).
Student card / professional ID card
A multi-service card delivered to all students, PhD-students, staff employed by the Université de Lorraine, temporary teaching staff and hosted staff once their administrative registration process is complete.
