Taxes in France for PhD students and researchers
You’ve received a salary in France, paid by a French organization, you engage in a professional activity, salaried or otherwise, and France is your country of residence (for more than 183 days a year): then you must submit a tax return to the French tax authorities every year.
Opening a bank account for researchers

Translating your administrative documents
Many French public services, such as the Préfecture, will request translations of your official documents (birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc). Here are lists of sworn translators.
Complementary or mutual health insurance for researchers
In France, Assurance Maladie (Health Insurance aka Social Security) doesn’t reimburse all your healthcare costs. Complementary (or mutual) health insurance covers the remaining costs to be met by the policy holder.
Validating a VLS-TS for PhD students & Researchers
You have arrived in France with a VLS-TS; within the 3 months following your arrival, you must validate your visa in order to convert it into a resident permit.
Residence Permits for PhD students & researchers
Depending on the type of visa you have been issued, you must carry out residence formalities in order to be authorized to live in France and obtain a residence permit.
Compulsory insurance in France
In France, civil liability and home insurance provide financial cover against damage caused to other people and in the event of an incident in your accommodation (fire, water damage, etc.).
Student card / professional ID card
A multi-service card delivered to all students, PhD-students, staff employed by the Université de Lorraine, temporary teaching staff and hosted staff once their administrative registration process is complete.
