FAQs

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR A STUDENT CARD?

All students, including PhD students.

Do PHD students get a student card?

All PhD students can have a specific card for PhD students, issued by the doctoral schools’ registry services.

PhD students on a contract can choose to apply for a “Professional Card” on the ENT platform (See How do I get a student card?).

How can I access university premises (offices, car parks, etc.) using my card?

Each Université de Lorraine site is responsible for granting access to its premises. You will need to enquire at the reception of each site, or email your application for the sites listed here.

What if I lose my card (or it is stolen)?

If your card is lost or stolen, remember to report this promptly so that it is cancelled and can no longer be used to pay for meals at Resto U cafeterias. Lost or stolen cards must be reported to the relevant registry services.

What if I don’t have my card on me?

If you forget to bring your card with you, you can still pay for your meal at Resto U cafeterias using the Izly mobile app (http://www.izly.fr/).

To access University buildings, you will need to use the new card, however.

What if I find a student card?

Please hand it into reception or registry services. It can then be returned to its owner or cancelled.

What do I have to do when I leave the university?

Nothing! The services using the card will be notified of your departure automatically.

A European student card

Since the start of the 2020 academic year, all students enrolled at Université de Lorraine benefit from a European student card. This allows for communication between the information systems of higher education institutions across Europe. Its purpose is to facilitate student mobility within Europe and to provide easier access to student services in any Member State of the European Union.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

This is not a new card, but an update to the current card issued by each university. Université de Lorraine signs up to the platform then registers its students. They are then notified thereof and can choose whether or not to confirm their registration in the scheme.

Every student card issued has a European Student Card Number (ESCN) printed in the form of a QR code and entered on the digital platform. This is used to check the status of the student and create a European Student Identifier (ESI) based on the Université de Lorraine student number. Checking the student status can make some measures easier, not least those in connection with international mobility.

Three types of service have been successfully trialled in voluntary universities:

  • access to university libraries and taking out documents;
  • e-payment system (at university cafeterias for example);
  • digitisation and sharing of administrative documents in a secure manner.

At Université de Lorraine, the European card has been digitised via the mobile app since September 2020. All registered students are given a European card which they can show when travelling around the European Union in partner institutions.
