An attractive working environment for researchers

With a view to empowering its talents to conduct research under the very best conditions, Université de Lorraine plays an active part in a wide array of international initiatives. In 2017, we were awarded the European Commission’s “Human Resources Strategy for Research” (HRS4R) label demonstrating the University’s commitment to improving the working and recruitment conditions of researchers.

By its very nature, research does not stop at borders; the scientific approach is intrinsically open to interaction and dialogue with the international community sharing the same interests. Participation in symposia, invitation of colleagues, trips to partner laboratories and co-publication of joint research papers are all therefore part of our laboratories’ day-to-day activities. Incidentally, it is altogether noteworthy that dual (jointly supervised) PhD degrees concern more than 1 in 10 PhD degrees at UL, and that 45% of our PhD students are international. Countless work meetings hosted in our labs are also held in English, the lingua franca for a good many subjects. Université de Lorraine and its on-site partners strive to set the stage for sound, enduring partnerships to shore up the international priorities of our laboratories.
